AEG FACILITIES AND BAHAMIAN GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCE
AGREEMENT FOR VENUE CONSULTING AND OPERATIONS
Los Angeles, CA & Nassau, Bahamas (May 28, 2015) Bahamian Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Perry Christie and the National Sports Authority of the Bahamas have announced a strategic consulting and operations agreement with AEG Facilities, the world leader in venue operations, to provide services for the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium and Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre in the capital city of Nassau. The comprehensive agreement calls for AEG Facilities to provide operational, management and marketing services to the venue as well as working with the National Sports Authority and the Ministries of Youth, Sports and Culture and Tourism on creating and attracting new sports and entertainment events to the venue.
The Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium was constructed in 2012. With a capacity of 30,000, it serves as the home of the Bahamas’ national soccer team and the Bahamas national track and field teams as well as many other special events such as the NCAA-sanctioned Popeye’s Bahamas Bowl, international football matches and the IAAF World Relay Championships. The Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre consists of several additional athletics venues, including a warm-up track complex, tennis stadium, natatorium, golf course, a gymnasium and opening soon a national baseball stadium.
“We are very excited to work with the National Sports Authority and this amazing collection of venues,” said Chuck Steedman, Chief Operating Officer, AEG Facilities. “Thomas Robinson Stadium has proven itself to be a world-class venue hosting the last two IAAF World Relay Championships as well as FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. We are looking forward to expanding the content base to provide jobs, tourism and cultural opportunities to benefit Bahamian youth,” Steedman continued.
The NSA’s Chairman Leroy Archer noted “it is a brand new day for sports and entertainment in the Bahamas as we, the NSA, partner with the leading sports and entertainment venue management team in the world. We are particularly pleased with the training, marketing and financial strength this company brings to the table”.
“We see tremendous opportunity to work with not only the Bahamian government, but the airline, cruise and hotel, resort and casino partners to grow the offering of sports and entertainment content to benefit both Bahamian citizens and residents while building on the already amazing tourism brand that is the Bahamas,” Steedman added.
