AEG Hosts First-Ever Earth Hour Competition
AEG’s Stadiums, Arenas and Convention Centers Around the World Will Compete With One Another to Support Climate Change Awareness
LOS ANGELES (March 23, 2018) – On Saturday, March 24, AEG will support World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Earth Hour, a worldwide grassroots movement to unite people in protecting the planet. This year, 22 AEG-affiliated facilities, arenas and convention centers in 18 cities, six countries and on four continents will compete with one another in AEG’s first-ever Earth Hour competition organized by AEG 1EARTH, AEG’s industry-leading corporate sustainability program. Additionally, multiple AEG-affiliated music theatres will participate in Earth Hour by turning off non-essential lights from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. locally.
AEG’s competing facilities will be judged on six different criteria, including: creativity, partnerships, employee engagement, patron engagement, community engagement and campaign communication. AEG will announce a Gold, Silver and Bronze Earth Hour winner on Friday, March 30.
Designed to engage millions of people around the world on climate change, Earth Hour encourages individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour as a symbol of their commitment to the planet. Each year, more than 7,000 cities show their support for environmental issues by participating in Earth Hour.
“Each year our venues celebrate Earth Hour in a number of ways, from dimming lighting to engaging with guests and fans through Earth Hour-specific campaigns. This year we are taking it to the next level with our first-ever AEG 1EARTH 2018 Earth Hour challenge, in which some of our most iconic venues worldwide will compete with one another to see who can conduct the most innovative and impactful Earth Hour campaign,” said John Marler, Vice President of Energy and Environment, AEG.
