AEG Community Foundation Awards Playworks An Additional $25,000 Grant
National Non-Profit Organization Leveraged “Power of Play” through #SpreadCheer Challenge
AEG, the world’s leading sports and live entertainment company, today announced that Playworks, a national nonprofit that supports learning and physical health by providing safe and inclusive play to low-income students in urban schools, has been granted an additional $25,000 from the AEG Community Foundation as the winner of the #SpreadCheer Challenge.
To qualify for the additional grant, AEG Community Foundation launched the #SpreadCheer Challenge on November 15, 2018, which allowed four participating non-profit organizations -- America SCORES, Los Angeles Brotherhood Crusade, Make-A-Wish Hawaii and Playworks – to engage their communities to play a tile-matching game which generated points that users then awarded to one of the four organizations; the winner being the organization with the most points.
“We are thrilled to have won AEG’s #SpreadCheer Challenge and the additional $25,000 grant from the AEG Community Foundation,” said LaVal Brewer, Playworks Southern California Executive Director. “These additional funds will be used to expand programming throughout the United States and help us reach our national goal of ensuring that by 2020, 3.5 million children experience safe and healthy play every day.”
“The #SpreadCheer Challenge also enabled us to bring the value of play and sport to thousands of people around the world, gaining more support and exposure for reducing the play equity gap,” said Brewer.
Over the past two years, AEG has partnered with Playworks in schools in the Los Angeles area through activations with the LA Galaxy and StubHub Center as well as serving as the official partner for AEG’s annual Service Day earlier this month, during which AEG brought more than 300 employees to Magnolia Avenue Elementary in Los Angeles to beautify the campus and engage with students during recess.
“Playworks has been a fantastic community partner throughout the past few years and we look forward to advancing the important work they do for children and communities throughout the country,” said Martha Saucedo, Executive Vice President, External Affairs, AEG. “AEG is committed to giving back to the communities where we do business and we are proud to partner with all four participating #SpreadCheer Challenge organizations.”
Over the past 10 years, AEG has contributed more than $120 million in direct financial and in-kind support to community and civic programs with a focus on children and youth in the areas of education, the arts and health and wellness. To find out more about the AEG Community Foundation click here.
