LA Galaxy Celebrate Earth Month with Students at Leapwood Avenue Elementary School
In celebration of Earth Month and MLS WORKS Fourth Annual Green Goals of Service Week, AEG’s LA Galaxy spent the day rebuilding and expanding gardens with students at Leapwood Avenue Elementary School in Carson, Calif. on April 11.
In conjunction with Garden School Foundation, an organization which provides in-depth garden-based education to youth at Title I schools in Los Angeles, the Galaxy spent the day building new planter boxes and signage in addition to tending to existing garden beds throughout the campus prior to working with second grade students to water and plant vegetables.
Throughout the month of April, the LA Galaxy will continue its sustainability efforts on and off the field leading up to the club’s Protect the Pitch match on April 19 against Houston Dynamo at Dignity Health Sports Park. The Galaxy will also continue to work with Garden School Foundation to provide students accessibility to fresh fruits and vegetables at their school’s garden.
MLS WORKS Greener Goals is an initiative that aims to identify ways to reduce the League’s greenhouse gas footprint and raise awareness about environmental issues throughout the soccer community. MLS WORKS will host the 4th annual Greener Goals Week of Service from April 11-22nd during which MLS club and League office staff will volunteer their time and give back in partnership with local charitable organizations leading up to Earth Day on April 22.
