The O2 Arena Opens as NHS Training Facility
AEG’s The O2 Arena in London recently opened earlier this month as a training facility – free of charge – to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) for its Nightingale field hospitals to combat COVID-19 through June 2020.
Staff trained at The O2 will go on to work at the NHS Nightingale field hospital at the ExCel center in east London. The NHS will be using this as an educational training facility to prepare staff and no patients will be treated on site.
Steve Sayer, vice president and general manager of The O2 – the world’s leading indoor arena – says that while becoming an NHS training center “will require further rescheduling of events booked to take place during this period, the priority for us all at this time is to help save lives, and we know our customers will understand our desire to support the NHS in this way.”
The rest of The O2 will remain closed to the public until further notice.
